All about Magnetic Drum Separator

Magnetic Separators have a wide array of applications in the industrial scenario today. Magnetic Drum Separators have a wide usage across industries. They are an apt tool for extracting ferrous contaminants from the raw material.

A Magnetic Drum Separator basically comprises of a non-magnetic drum enclosed with either standard or rare earth magnets. The ferrous contaminants stick to the drum during the purification process while the raw material is diverted to another section. The powerful magnet inside the drum efficiently extracts any impurities present and raw material can be further processed. The magnet used in drum separator is of a permanent everlasting type. There are basically two kinds of magnets used in the separation process:
  • Ceramic Magnets: They ensure good separation of tramp iron from the raw materials. They are used when iron particles are present in large form.
  • Rare Earth Magnets: They are very powerful magnets used for separation when iron is present in very fine form or where the contaminants have a weak magnetic field. Rare Earth Magnets are five times stronger than the ceramic one.

The Commonly Used Magnetic Drums Are:
  • Single Drum Separators: As is indicated by the name itself, there is only one magnetic drum in these kinds of separators used for purifying the raw materials.
  • Double Drum Magnetic Separators: They are used for treating raw materials which require a greater deal of purification. There are two drums to ensure this.

There are many advantages which explain why magnetic drum separators are a preferred tool of
Magnetic Separation.
  • They are easy to install and don’t require much space. Space is a serious constraint in many factories but Drum Separators need only minimal area.
  • The magnets used are everlasting and do not require replacement.
  • The magnets are uniformly powerful.

Magnetic Drum Separators are widely used in all processing industries where tramp metal is required to be separated from the product flow. Industries like food processing, iron and steel, chemical, fertilizers and chemicals regularly make use of these separators.

Magnetic Drum Separators are available in a lot of specifications. Certain factors need to be considered while buying one. Level of purity needed, volume of material and quality of material to be processed are some points which may help make the right decision.

  1. Magnetic separation is a process in which magnetically susceptible material is extracted from a mixture using a magnetic force. Magnetic Separator is widely used for this purpose. Thanks for sharing.
