Know About Rare Earth Magnets

The name of the Real earth Magnets comes from the alloy of Real Earth Elements, the main part of the magnet. Real Earth Magnets are made of materials which retain their magnetic properties and a paramagnetic field is formed around them. The size of the Real Earth Magnet may be small but its strength is immense.

The magnetic strength of the Rare Earth Magnets can be gauged from the fact that the magnet is capable of attracting and lifting materials with weight four hundred times its own weight. This astounding magnetic strength makes the Rare Earth Magnet the demand of the Electronic Industry. In expensive electronic gadgets like computer hard drives and cell phones, this type of magnet is installed. The Rare Earth Magnets fitted in different gadgets are generally coated with nickel to prevent any chance of damage. ·    Neodymium (Nd-Fe-B) Magnets: Neodymium (Nd-Fe-B) magnet is an alloy of neodymium, iron, boron and other transition metals. These magnets are known for their excellent magnetic strength and are fitted in the hard drives of computers. With the use of Neodymium (Nd-Fe-B) magnets the strongest magnetic field is created. But with Nd-Fe-B magnets the problem is of licensing of the patents. These magnets need the proper coating of nickel or gold to protect them from oxidation and high temperature. Because of the small size and affordable price, Neodymium magnets can be easily fitted in small objects like speakers and microphones.
·    Samarium- Cobalt (Sm Co) magnets: Such magnets consist of metals like samarium, cobalt and iron. The advantages of Samarium- Cobalt (Sm Co) magnets over the Neodymium magnets are their resistance to demagnetization and high temperature. Though the Samarium- Cobalt (Sm Co) magnets are resistant to corrosion but are liable to breakage when exposed to thermal shock. These magnets have become highly demanded for traveling wave tubes and satellite systems.

Rare Earth Magnets are not for the child to play, but have to be handled with extreme care. Very high magnetic strength and price of the Rare Earth Magnets have made them objects to be handled with care. In fact, many Electronic gadgets which can be affected by the magnetic field of the Rare Earth Magnets are to be placed at a distance from it.
