The Modern and Advanced Magnetic Products

Any object that produces its own magnetic field is known as a magnet. Nowadays, magnet has applications in all sectors, whether industrial or household. It is used virtually everywhere, to make something as frivolous as a kid’s toy or in treating medical ailments like body pain, insomnia etc.

Some Of The Areas Where Magnets Are Used Are:
  • ATM cards and debit cards: These cards use magnetic strips, which are embedded on one side of the card. This strip contains data which is accessed during financial transactions.
  • Floppy disk and CDs have a magnetic coating which records data.
  • Magnets have been credited with therapeutic qualities since ancient times. Today, magnetic therapy is used widely as pain reliever in sports sector. Magnets are also used in vital medical processes like MRIs and X-RAYs.
  • Speakers, microphones, electric motors and generators – these equipment make use of magnets to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy or vice versa.
  • Magnets are used in fastening devices such as magnetic clamps etc
  • They are used in scrapyards to separate the metallic scrap from other junk. Magnet is also used as a sorter in mining industry for segregating the metals from the ore.
  • Maglev (or magnetic levitation transport) uses the magnetic field for transportation purposes.
  • Magnet is also the driving force in the working of a Compass.
  • In airports, parking lots and docking areas, special magnetic sweeps are used to prevent flat tires.
  • Magnets are also used in headphones, in refrigerators, power supply transformers etc

Magnets Can Be Broadly Classified Into These Categories:
  • Permanent Magnets: They are most common magnet found in our homes e.g. refrigerator magnet. These magnets are permanent in nature. They are composed of ferromagnetic material.
  • Temporary Magnets: These objects acquire magnetic qualities when they come in contact with a magnetized field e.g. paper clips. Also, the magnetism is lost as soon as the field is removed. These kinds are used in telephones and electric motors.
  • Electromagnets: They have a major role to play in the working of many modern appliances like computers and PCs. Electromagnets are simply those materials which act as a magnet when electricity is passed through it.

All these applications and more make Magnetic Products an indispensable part of modern life. From the ancient era, when a suspended lodestone was used as a compass, to modern times, Magnets have come a long way.
