Permanent Lifting Magnets – Can Increase Productivity

Where there is frequent lifting and movement of iron and steel items and tools, like a construction site, Permanent Lifting Magnets, come to the rescue of the workforce. It helps pick up materials in a variety of shapes, especially around and in the form of tubes. The use of Permanent Lifting Magnets helps you reduce the manual lifting work for the workforce and thereby increase productivity. Equally important, in remote construction sites, it might not be feasible to use overhead travelling cranes to shift heavy stuff. In many work sites, there may not be space enough for the OHT cranes as well. In such locations, these lifting magnets could be a very useful material handling equipment.

Capacity and Safety

Though there are various capacities for which the lifting magnets are manufactured, the normal lifting capacity ranges from 120 kgs to 2 tons. And the magnets fitted in the lifting equipments, are generally of a rating, much higher, around 2 to 3 times the machine’s lifting capacity. To make it simpler, if a lifting magnet has a rating of 500 kgs, the magnet inside is actually capable of lifting up to 150 kgs. This is done to ensure that the safety of the people in the workplace is protected and no room for risk is given.

Many Advantages

Permanent Lifting Magnets are also advantageous in the sense that they are dependent on power, or they don't run on batteries, which need recharging. In a typical powered lifting arrangement, there is a threat of the object falling if there is a sudden power disruption, though some of them do come into an arrangement to hold it for a few minutes before a standby power is restored. However, here no such risk exists.

What’s more, being a permanent magnet, its magnetic power lasts a very long period and gives you very little worry in maintaining it. The lifting magnet has a very simple mechanism and even semi-skilled  operators in your factory can handle it. An on/off handle is all it needs to operate or disengage the magnet. For example, if a steel plate is to be shifted, you place the lifting magnet on it and shift the lever to ‘ON’ and if the hook is lifted, slightly, it will show the plate being lifted. Once you reach the destination where it is to be placed, the lever is pulled in the reverse direction to ‘OFF’

One of the aspects, you might want to check with the manufacturer of these lifting magnets, is the basic material with which the magnets are constructed. Rare-earth magnets are the most popularly preferred ones.

Permanent Lifting Magnets Vs Electromagnets?

In an electromagnet, the magnetic field is produced due to flow of electricity and magnetic field disappears after the current is turned off. Since electromagnets are extremely powerful in nature, hence they are extensively used in various industries for lifting heavy material. There is just one disadvantage of using electromagnet i.e. the magnetic field disperses if the electricity supply is cut off. This could lead to potentially dangerous situations & workplace hazards. Therefore, nowadays many industries are opting for Permanent Lifting Magnets that are permanent in nature and do not require any kind of power supply. The utilization of Permanent Lifting Magnets in various industries is increasing due to the following advantages:
  • Permanent Lifting Magnets are cost effective. Unlike the electromagnets, they do not require any kind of power supply for functioning. Hence, they help in saving a good amount of money that is spent in generating power for operating the magnet.
  • Permanent Lifting Magnets are permanent in nature and do not stop working if the power supply is halted. This greatly helps in saving time that is required in re-starting the operations after the power supply is disrupted for a short duration of time. With Permanent Lifting Magnets, there is no such problem if the electric supply gets cut off mid-operation.
  • Permanent Lifting Magnets are easier to handle and maintain as opposed to electromagnets.
  • Permanent Lifting Magnets are generally light and compact. Therefore, they occupy less amount of space in comparison to heavy electromagnets that occupy a good amount of space and are bulky.

Employing Lifting Magnets For Material Handling Operations

Lifting Magnets are required to carry out various industrial applications. One of the major requirements of diverse industries is to lift heavy material from one place to another. This is where the Lifting Magnets play a crucial role and make the job easy and less time consuming.

Before We Proceed Further, We Must Know What Are Lifting Magnets?
Lifting Magnet is a kind of electromagnet in which raw material is moved over the magnetic lifters in order to separate out the iron contaminants. Lifting Magnet is used to separate iron particles from sand, scrap, or plastic components. There are various types of Lifting Magnets such as Permanent Magnetic Lifters, Circular Lifting Magnets and Rectangular Lifting Magnet.  Lifting Magnets should be purchased from authentic Manufacturers and Suppliers of Magnetic Lifters who provide quality-approved Lifting Magnets that have the capacity to bear heavy loads and provide maximum safety during operations.

Following Are The Various Types Of Lifting Magnets:
Permanent Magnetic Lifters: Permanent Magnetic Lifters are widely used in industries for lifting heavy steel plates or tubes. As compared to any other mechanisms, Permanent Magnetic Lifters are the most robust and safer machines for material handling. There are several Permanent Magnetic Lifters Suppliers and Manufacturers who use rare earth magnets inside these making them highly efficient. Moreover, Permanent Magnetic Lifters do not require any electrical supply, and thus reduce the overall expense of the company over material handling.

Circular Lifting Magnets: Circular Lifting Magnets generally have coils that are completely sealed. Circular Lifting Magnets need less maintenance. These magnets are easy to operate and have higher permeability and robust construction. Circular Lifting Magnets can also be designed for handling over-heated material.

Rectangular Lifting Magnet:
Rectangular Lifting Magnets are not much different from previous two magnetic lifters. Rectangular Lifting Magnets have intense magnetic field and are specifically designed for handling applications such as:
· Casting
· Handling of metal sheets
· Billets
· Bundles
· Plates
· Bars

Rectangular Lifting Magnets consume less power, and thus improve productivity and cut the expenditure of the company. There are many Rectangular Magnets Suppliers  in market who provide the best Rectangular Lifting Magnet that is capable of lifting single as well as multiple plates.

All the above Lifting Magnets have specific uses. Therefore, none of them can replace each other. Moreover, before purchasing Lifting Magnets, get proper information about their technical specifications and material used to manufacture them to get optimum results.
